Live Review: Kirin J Callinan + Standish/Carlyon + Jonny Telafone - Northcote Social Club, Melbourne (04.07.13)

Kirin J Callinan's reputation for being provocative and subversive precedes him. Whether it be his past fetish for wearing dresses on stage, his stirring, experimental, guitar sound scapes, the Sugar Mountain Festival fiasco, or his disturbing film clip for “Way To War”; Callinan knows how to generate a buzz, piquing the curiosity of punters that come to his shows. Here on his national Embracism album tour, the punters have packed the confines of the Northcote Social Club, eager to see what Callinan has in store for them.

Jonny Telafone record launch shows this month and January.

The Melbournian Jonny Telafone Bedroom auteur whose scattered musical releases created a concoction of cultish followers is set to take to the stage again to launch his new self-titled record.

With a love of throwing it all in there and his ability to be bound by no genre boundry. Telafone takes audiences on a trip through slick r’n’b sex jams, outsider acoustic folk, and apocalyptic sci-fi mini-epics.
