Live Review: Jess Ribeiro + Leah Senior - Northcote Social Club, Melbourne (26.09.15)

Have you ever felt the fun immediately get sucked out of something? Maybe you’ve had a flashback to something awkward or doofy you did one time far after the fact, or maybe you’ve felt a sudden unwelcome ache of the body or the heart. It’s not a feeling anyone seeks out but it’s one that comes with the territory of life. But generally, unless you’re being a creeper and following your ex’s band around, this feeling stays away from the band room. Unfortunately, Saturday at the Northcote Social Club didn’t get this memo.

the AU Weekend Gig Guide: September 25th - September 27th.

With festival season right around the corner, there are plenty of shows to get yourself to this weekend. From underground rock 'n' roll in Adelaide to rap in Sydney and Sound of the Suburbs festival in Cronulla here is our eclectic mix of shows you can get to this weekend.

Single of the Day: Jess Ribeiro "Hurry Back to Love" (2015)

Jess Ribeiro has recently premiered her new single "Hurry Back to Love" online and it's another slice of greatness from the Melbourne-based songwriter who has consistently been writing tunes and producing some fantastic music over the past few years. Working with Mick Harvey and James Cruickshank on the single, Ribeiro's latest release fits in well alongside "Kill It Yourself" and is another good little insight into her highly anticipated LP Kill It Yourself.

What a wonderfully dark track Jess Ribiero has brought us with her new single "Kill It Yourself". The song comes off the new Remote Control Records signee's debut record, which she produced with Mick Harvey, due out in August. The song itself - accompanied by a stunning video, is about the disconnection from where our food comes from. On the track, Jess says, "I had a dream I killed a chicken and had to prepare it. It felt tribal. When I woke up I asked my Grandma how she did it in the old days. She hated doing it." You can watch the track - our music video of the day - here:
