JAKOB

Live Review: Jakob + hazards of swimming naked - Crowbar, Brisbane (29.11.14)

Starting the night off were local boys, hazards of swimming naked. From the hypnotic "... a whole assortment of uppers and downers" to the quietly triumphant "Kip Kleino", it's a beautiful symphonic set of instrumental rock. With three guitars, each song has melody, harmony and ambience woven through to create a true tapestry of sound. The drums push them along, alternatively deft and punishing.

the AU interview: Jeff Boyle of Jakob (NZ)

New Zealand "post-rockers" Jakob have released their brand new record Sines, and to celebrate its Australian release they'll be coming across the Tasman for an East Coast (and Tasmanian) tour later this month. Matthew Evans caught up with guitarist Jeff Boyle from the group to talk about the release, the tour and more.

Album Review: Jakob - Sines (2014 LP)

'Blind Them with Science' takes the lead for the album, displaying a sheer defiant spirit that burns throughout the rest of the tracks. It's been eight years since Jakob's last album, eight long years of injuries, frustration and bad luck, and this album is very much a triumphant middle finger to all of that. The mournful 'Emergent' follows the ferocious first track, orchestral strings weaving another layer of melody to the singing guitar and echoing bass. 'Magna Carta' is when the band starts to slowly flex its muscles, as the slow, controlled start gives way to wonderful warped guitar driven by the drum's incessant battering rhythm.
