Sydney festival One Day Only announces line up

In case you haven't heard already, Sydney crew One Day are taking their One Day Sundays party up to a new level by turning it into a boutique festival at Manning House, titled One Day Only. The event was announced last week and almost instantly sold out of first release tickets, now with second release on sale, the team have announced the festival line-up and it's as big and diverse as we expected.

Single of the Day: Jackie Onassis Feat. Vydamo "MIA" (2015)

Sydney duo Jackie Onassis have been busy tinkering away in the studio and finessing their sound for a highly anticipated debut LP set for release country-wide in the very near future. Proof of that is the project's first single, "MIA", which has the lads hooking with Vydamo, who most recognise as Jim Finn from Art vs Science, for a spirited party-starter, continuing the crisp mix of electronica and hip hop that has made the duo a very in-demand act around Australia.

the AU review's 15 most anticipated Australian records of 2015

After an incredible year of new Australian music in 2014, we have an incredible array of records in the pipeline for the new year. Some are from bands who we've been waiting to hear from again for years... some for the first time... others are continuously pumping out incredible music and we have no desire for them to stop! In no particular order, here are the fifteen Australian albums (some confirmed, some still to be...) that we can't wait for (or at the very least are hoping for...) in 2015:

the AU interview at Festival of the Sun: Jackie Onassis (Sydney) on their mixtape "Sushi" and their next LP.

the AU review's Larry Heath sits backstage at Festival of the Sun in Port Macquarie, NSW, with Sydney based hip hop duo Jackie Onassis to talk about their brand new mixtape SUSHI and we get the latest on their next full length album, due out in 2015. We also look back at the band's experiences in 2014.

Best of 2014: Top 50 Hip Hop and R&B songs of 2014 (Part One: 50-41)

2014 closes in a matter of weeks, and with its end comes a myriad of reflective best of lists that serve as a good way to round up the array of sounds that really made an impact this year. Undoubtedly you'll be seeing a bunch of these lists published on the AU in the coming weeks, but I wanted to kick mine off with a round up of 50 tracks I feel were the best moments of hip hop and R&B - what some people call 'urban music' - this year.

Port Macquarie's annual Festival of the Sun returns for its 10th edition with its most stellar lineup to date. Day 1 of the festival included artist such as Goons of Doom, Chris Rose, The Cairos, Timberwolf, Jackie Onassis, I Oh You DJs and the first day's headliners Violent Soho. Photos by Johnny Au.

ARIA Week Photo Gallery: Gang of Youths + Holy Holy + Jackie Onassis + Little Sea - Beresford Hotel, Sydney (24.11.14)

Sony Music put on a special Australian artist showcase at the Beresford Hotel to celebrate ARIA week. Gang of Youths, Holy Holy, Jackie Onassis, and Little Sea all put on outstanding performances. Enjoy these photos by Ashley Joanna:

Single Stream: Jackie Onassis "One Love" (2014)

Following the massive One Day tour in September, the boys of Jackie Onassis are gearing up for a round of club shows across the country, so it makes sense that they spread their hip hop prowess even further with the release of a track Raph Dixon describes as "adult contemporary". You can certainly hear the intimate strains of 90s R&B in the mellow beat for "One Thing" as a mature sounding Kai Tan drives slow over the melody. Drake wishes he made this.

New Music Video: Jackie Onassis "NSY" (2014)

With the One Day tour still fresh in the minds of hip-hop fans across the country, now seems like the perfect time for Jackie Onassis to drop a video for one of the new tracks they were performing during the past few weeks. "NSY" is in line with with their love of synths, crisp drums, and massive, melodic hooks and continues the half-sung, half-rapped bounce they are fast becoming known for. The film clip is produced by the boys themselves, with the One Day crew steady mobbin' on city rooftops, rapping in bakeries, and popping champagne in taxi diners. Adit from Horrorshow directed it and Nick Lupi from Spit Syndicate served as production assistant, so the project is very much in-house and has that inner-west cool about it. Check it out below.

The Smith Street Band, Joelistics and more heading for NYE on the Hill this year!

Just when you thought NYE on the Hill couldn't get any more rad, it goes and does just that! The festival which is already set to host the likes of Jackie Onassis, The Bennies, City Calm Down and more fantastic Australian bands, has announced another slew of amazing artists confirmed to head to 'The Farm', just outside Loch Village in Victoria this NYE.

Live Review: One Day Tour - Enmore Theatre (19.09.14)

Think of all the great hip-hop collectives you know of which have put out an album as one, from Wu-Tang to The Diplomats to Dungeon Family. The dynamic that makes collectives like these work so well in the studio is developed through years of constant collaboration and refinement, so that when that day comes when the group is set to drop an entire album, the fans see shades of each artist that can only be brought out when they are part of a team. This is what happened on Mainline, the debut LP by Sydney's One Day crew, placing it as one of the more refreshing hip-hop albums of the year, with a dynamic not often seen on the Australian circuit.

Album Review: One Day - Mainline (2014 LP)

Spit Syndicate, Horrorshow , Jackie Onassis and Joyride all have a few things in common. Firstly, they all hail from Sydney's inner-west. Secondly, they are all a huge part of the hip hop scene in Australia and actively part of its development. Finally, they are all members of the clique known as One Day and - to the joy (and perhaps surprise) of many hip hop fans - have just released their first album together.

Festival of the Sun announce 10th anniversary line up

It's hard to believe that Port Macquarie has been enjoying the annual Festival of the Sun for 10 years now. The relaxed, celebratory atmosphere of the two-day festival is a consistent winner with punters each year, and for their 10th anniversary, the festival is looking to deliver their very best yet. Drawing upon some of the biggest names in Australian music to help usher in a decade of FOTSUN, the organisers have given us something truly spectacular.

the AU interview: One Day (Sydney) - Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate and Jackie Onassis - talk "Mainline"!

Sydney based Hip Hop collective One Day, to talk about the release of their debut record Mainline (out now). One Day is comprised of Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate, Jackie Onassis and Joyride (who, unfortunately, wasn't present for the interview). Epic. All three parts of the interview are now embedded here:

Single Stream: One Day "Many Hands" (2014)

Sydney hip-hop collective One Day have just released the second taste of their forthcoming debut LP Mainline, drawing on the respective talents of Spit Syndicate, Horrorshow, Jackie Onassis, and Joyride to give us an impressive lyrical exercise. "Many Hands" is the perfect pace-setter for the highly anticipated album, showcasing each artists with a constantly evolving production. Listen below.
