Live Review: All Tomorrow's Parties present "I'll Be Your Mirror" - Melbourne (16-17.02.13)

Album Review: Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! (2012 LP)

Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!

There has always been something quite poetic about Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The Canadian outfit have become the stalwart figureheads of the post-rock genre, their music consistently highlighting an almost innate ability to be both political and inspirational, despite the lack of a vocalist. The band’s poetics work solely through textures - intricate mixtures of ambient noise, subtle instrumental variation, strange loops, heavy drone and general guitar abuse. Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! may be the group’s first album in a decade, yet it proves that the band have not lost any of their poetic dynamism.
