Festival Review: Lollapalooza Berlin - Tempelhof Airport, Germany (12.09.15 & 13.09.15)

Photo: Stephan Flad.

Lollapalooza branched out into Europe for the first time over the weekend, taking Berlin's Tempelhof Airport by storm. The sold out event drew huge numbers of music fans down to the defunct airport (one of the coolest festival venues I've been too, I'll add) for some brilliant sets by artists who've been away for a little while, some of the biggest names touring at the moment and some recent festival favourites. Having attended Lollapalooza in Chicago last year, I felt like I was going into this one at least a little prepared, but Berlin's festival game was another beast in itself.

the AU interview at Lollapalooza Berlin: Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand (Scotland) talks FFS and collaborating with rock royalty

Photo: David Edwards.

Alex Kapranos of Scotland's Franz Ferdinand, together with his band of Franz brothers, recently formed what can only be described as a 'supergroup', in FFS. Having teamed up with rock legends Sparks, they've created an exciting, unpredictable album, titled FFS. Talking at this year's Lollapalooza Berlin festival with Sosefina Fuamoli, Kapranos shares his experience on creating the album with a few words of wisdom...

FFS & Deichkind impress, while Macklemore & Ryan Lewis draw 50,000+ to close out Night One of Lolla Berlin!

The first day and night of the inaugural European extension of Lollapalooza came to a close at the Tempelhof Airport on Saturday, with hip-hop, rock and roll and dance music setting up a killer final few hours for punters to power on through to. With perfect weather conditions, an excellent venue and a solid line up of internationally renowned acts performing promptly throughout the Lollapalooza Berlin's first day, festival goers were spoiled for choice when it came not only to the variety of food options on offer, but musical fare too.

British festival favourites Muse have been announced as headliners for Lollapalooza Berlin, it's been revealed overnight. The two day festival happening in September is the latest event to be added to the Lolla franchise, taking place at Tempelhof Airport and already features the likes of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Franz Ferdinand, Run the Jewels and Crystal Fighters on its inaugural festival bill.

New Music Video: Franz Ferdinand "Fresh Strawberries" (2014)

Last year, Franz Ferdinand released their fourth studio album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action. Their single "Fresh Strawberries" has been released with a music video, a track which uses ripe and rotten fruit as a metaphor to describe the band itself. Check out the video below:

The Cat Empire and John Butler Trio announced with Biffy Clyro and Massive Attack for the Gurten Festival!

If someone could grab us tickets to this one, that'd be great. We'd love to visit Switzerland. The final artist lineup for the Gurten Festival in Bern has been announced, with Aussies The Cat Empire and the John Butler Trio set to perform alongside some of the world's best over the four day party.

Live Review: Franz Ferdinand + The Creases - The Tivoli, Brisbane (17.11.13)

Franz Ferdinand’s Australian tour was an attempt to remedy the devastating impact of Harvest Festival's cancellation, so it was unsurprising that not even a wet and stormy Sunday night could keep Brisbane fans at home.

Live Review: Franz Ferdinand + Shining Bird - Metro Theatre, Sydney (15.11.13)

You could say Franz Ferdinand have all the right moves because they provided the right action at their Sydney Metro show. The Glaswegian quartet confidently straddles the lines between two rather different musical styles, meaning it’s sometimes about rock music you can dance to and at other times, dance tunes you can rock out to. Having just released studio album number four, the group know a thing or two about putting on a fine show and they managed to find the right balance between old and new material.

The Festival Diaries: Austin City Limits (ACL) 2013 Day Three ft. Atoms For Peace + Lionel Richie - Zilker Park, Austin (06.10.13)

And in the blink of an eye, Austin City Limits came to an end for yours truly for another year. But not before one more day of some incredible music, with Atoms for Peace (pictured) and Lionel Richie closing out the festival.
