FLOWERTRUCK on recording at The Grove, flexing the ‘recording muscle’ and more!

Catching up three quarters of FLOWERTRUCK in Brisbane last week during BIGSOUND mayhem, Larry found out some more about their recent recording process at the renowned Grove Studios and how the live shows have continued to develop over recent months.

“It was good to get away for four days to The Grove,” Sarah Sykes says. “It was nice have the disconnect. …It was awesome, we had the kitchen literally about ten steps away from the recording studio and the bedrooms! It was just like wake up, pyjamas, fry up bacon and eggs, record – it was a dream!”

Focusing on new music and introducing it into their set has been relished by the band, as Sarah explains.

“With the Dirt EP; those five songs on the EP were so long ago, it’s crazy when you think about how much time has passed and how we can harness the ideas we’ve had over the past year. There’s a few on the album that are new, really new, which feels good as well, because it’s fresh.”

Having formed a live presence for themselves rather quickly since 2014, the band admits that their time in studio working on their album has boosted their skills as writers and musicians offstage, an element of their musicianship they’re loving working on.

“There’s two halves of the thing.” Charlie Rushforth says. “There’s the playing live muscle, where we were doing like, four shows a week at one point and we were going crazy. Then there’s the recording muscle, and we’re just starting to flex that now. I think it’s going to be nice and taut by the time this album comes out.”
