the AU interview: Falls (NSW) Talk About Their New Album ‘Omaha’ And Upcoming US Tour

The year has been a long and fruitful one for Australian duo Simon Rudston-Brown and Melinda Kirwin, better known as Falls. The pair have just released their debut album, Omaha, and we caught up with them recently at the Hollywood Hotel, a venue quite familiar to the pair, to discuss the year so far, as well as their future plans. Falls began their career playing small, free shows at the iconic venue, and Melinda laughs as she recalls the memories. “When we were actually driving up towards the Hollywood to set up the first night, it felt like the craziest déjà vu I’ve ever had in my life...” she says. “It just felt like we were home.” Click through for the full interview!

Easily one of the AU's favourite artists, Falls took part in a special AU Sessions celebrating the release of their much-awaited debut album, Omaha. Recorded during their soundcheck at Sydney's Hollywood Hotel where they performed a three night run to launch the album, check out the duo performing their tune "When We Were Young" exclusively for the AU!

Sydney folk duo Falls wrap up three sold out nights in their Hotel Hollywood homecoming

They say you often to need to go back to where you started to find out how far you've come. And in the case of Sydney band Falls - now based in Los Angeles - they spent much of this week doing just that. The folk duo, then known as The Falls, got their start performing weekly at the Hollywood Hotel in Surry Hills, growing their name as well as their Folk Club brand before moving onto the Oxford Art Factory and the Soda Factory in its later years. And with the imminent release of their debut LP, it seemed only appropriate that they would return to its walls and receive would be best described as a heroes welcoming.

Single of the Day: Falls "Let in the Light" (2015)

It was after Sydney's folk-pop duo Falls moved to Los Angeles that they wrote the extremely personal new song, "Let in the Light". While the track plays with universal notions of self-doubt and sadness, it ultimately offers a hopeful message, as its title suggests. Click through to listen to the track in full.

The line up for the popular Firely Festival has been released, with a swag of our favourite artists set to fly out to Delaware this June to play alongside some of the world's best live bands. A mysterious third headliner is blanked out on the festival poster, with many already speculating that Paul McCartney will take the spot - with his many appearances lately, it wouldn't be totally surprising. For now, we know that Kings of Leon and The Killers lead the top row, with the likes of Morrissey, Bastille, Foster the People, Modest Mouse and Snoop Dogg following hot on their heels.

SXSW have released another round of musicians from around the world who will be joining the massive music program as part of their 2015 program overnight, featuring a strong line up of Australian artists who are sure to make their impact in Austin next March! Included on SXSW Music's third round are the likes of Meg Mac, Remi, Kirin J Callinan and Tkay Maidza, while on an international level, punters can be expecting the likes of Circa Waves, Best Coast, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Marina and the Diamonds to showcase!
