Festival Review: WOMADELAIDE (Day Two) - Adelaide Botanic Gardens (07.03.15)

WOMADelaide Day Two starts off with some coconut juice and some time out in the sun soaking up the wonderful sounds of Emma Swift and Robyn Hitchcock. I know, I know, it's a hard way to spend a weekend - someone's got to do it though, right?

Proudly presented by the AU review, Emma Swift performed a special free show on Friday night as part of the Courtyard Sessions series - taking over the Seymour Centre courtyard every Friday evening. Performing three half an hour sets, the phenomenal country artist took us on a trip through her own music - including the immaculate "Bittersweet" - and threw in some covers from artists like Gram Parsons and "Wrecking Ball" by Emmylou Harris - which she did justice!

Winners and more nominees for the 2014 ARIA Awards were announced at the official event in Sydney this morning, with some of Australia's best performers and their teams recognised for their work over the past year. The winners of the Fine Arts and Artisan Awards were announced at the event, with the slew of nominees for the November ARIAs unveiled. the AU congratulates all involved - there have been some truly stellar records produced over the past year, as well as the development of some great live bands who are getting just recognition!

Out On The Weekend expands to Brisbane and announce headline shows for Justin Townes Earle and Ryan Bingham!

Following the successful announcement of the inaugural Melbourne Out On The Weekend event at Seaworks Williamstown, the event is now also heading to Brisbane in October. Out On The Weekend is a celebration of Americana music, great food and fine booze and will feature Nikki Lane, Robert Ellis, The Declines, Jonny Fritz, Emma Swift, Halfway, Paddy McHugh and Warren Earl Band.

Out on the Weekend is a new destination event for Melbourne, introducing a celebration of Americana music, great food and fine booze on the water Seaworks, Williamstown. Love Police stated, "Ever since my first concert at the Wandong Country Music Festival in the mid 70’s, I have had a fascination with the country sounds, the roots of it all, let’s just call it Americana music. Over the years I’ve had the good fortune to work with some great talent in this field like Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show and a load more. I’ve always tried to bring the best of what I see, hear and discover to our fine shores for us all to experience the good shit".
