the AU interview: Drapht (WA) talks returning to live touring and the current Australian hip-hop industry

Let me take you back to January 16th, 2015. Thousands of music fans crowd into The Domain in Sydney to watch the Hilltop Hoods smash a memorable headline set out on a hot evening. A key moment of their set is of course in, "Cosby Sweater", where it soon turns into a hip-hop love in with multiple names dropping in with guest verses. When Drapht makes his entrance to a sample of "Rapunzel", you can hear the crowd go wild. "Sydney, what the fuck is up?!" he hollers. More screams. Having been away from touring solidly since 2013, the Perth rapper gave people a little reminder of what we'd all been missing.

As part of the Sydney Festival next year, triple j are choosing to throw a huge ass birthday party in the Domain! The Beat the Drum event is already hosting the likes of Hilltop Hoods, The Presets and The Cat Empire, but today on the Matt and Alex show, a huge second artist announcement was revealed for the January 16th party!

Festival Review: State of the Art Festival - Perth Cultural Centre (31.05.14)

Once again Western Australia scored lucky with the weather gods over the long weekend, keeping ominous rain clouds at bay for the duration of the State of the Art Festival hosted by Celebrate WA in association with WAM.

State of the Art Music Festival 2014 Announces 'SOTA Surrounds'!

SOTA Surrounds, Perth festival to celebrate the local music of WA, is bringing more music, even some local acts performing free stripped back throughout the festival grounds, an MC battle and even some visual art to the table this year. Headliners Drapht, Eskimo Joe and San Cisco and emerging artists The Stems, The Blackeyed Susans, The Kill Devil Hills, Kim Salmon, Split Seconds, Bitter Belief, Sable and much more! It's sure to be an absolutely fantastic time.

Album Review: Illy - Cinematic (2013 LP)

Australian hip-hop has made it into the mainstream and Illy’s fourth album release, Cinematic, has been highly anticipated, however with Aussie hip-hop making it into the mainstream it’s susceptible to the same problems hip-hop has globally: over-production.
