Live Review: Darren Middleton + Sahara Beck - The Vanguard, Sydney (28.08.15)

It’s always nice to see that, regardless of time, there are some Australian artists who continue to perform and remain mesmerising to watch each time you see them. Whether you saw Darren Middleton onstage with his former band Powderfinger. Or during the short-lived days of his earlier side-project band Drag. Or more recently flying solo under his own name. Each time he has been able to bring a little charm and charisma to the stage. Tonight was no exception.

Adelaide Fringe Festival Review: Guy Pearce & Darren Middleton - Garden of Unearthly Delights (17.02.15)

Another evening spent down in the Garden of Unearthly Delights, another evening spent waiting in a line full of eager audience members toting beers and champagne flutes; some complaining about the time spent waiting, others getting notably antsy about the concept of a show in a pop-up style venue and others, like me, not knowing what to expect from the main show whatsoever, but intrigued nonetheless. Guy Pearce and Darren Middleton bring their 'Broken Translations Tour' to Adelaide tonight and as I find out, it's a sold out show.

Shows You Can't Miss at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2015.

Despite the overcast weather that threatens to break over Adelaide today, nothing will break the spirit of the Adelaide Fringe Festival. The festival kicks off tonight officially, with hundreds of shows set to premiere their 2015 seasons throughout the city in various venues. There's a reason that this festival is only second to the Edinburgh Fringe - people from all over the world come to this little pocket of the country for a month of shows and activities and the atmosphere that's generated is really like no other. So, before the official parade begins and the drinks begin to flow, we look ahead to some shows we're stoked to see.

Festival Review: Woodford Folk Festival Day One & Two - Woodfordia, Queensland (27-28.12.14)

By account of the cheers when the gates opened on Boxing Day, spirits certainly were as high as the slow deepening dark clouds moving over the site. Woodford Folk Festival is the ultimate endurance festival for those looking for a treat between Christmas and New Years, but in it’s own way is a vast beautiful event bringing together a bunch of artists free in spirit, but also diligent on ensuring that their performances are top notch.

the AU interview: Darren Middleton (NSW) talks playing Woodford, touring life and on-stage banter.

Solo material isn’t a strange concept to former Powderfinger guitarist Darren Middleton, as he has released material under the name Drag in the past. He however is still learning a lot in the time that his first album released under his own name – Translations – was released in 2013. He spoke to Philippe Perez ahead of his performances at the Woodford Folk Festival and upcoming tour with Guy Pierce.
