Sydney Festival Live Review: Dan Deacon - The Aurora (22.01.15)

Filing into pop-up circus tent The Aurora at 11:45pm on a weekday may not inspire much energy in itself, but it's almost impossible to feel weary once you step inside the colourful and perky world of Dan Deacon. The American electronic musician is renowned for his unique live shows, which often involve various communal, ice-breaking mini games serving as interludes between his highly animated, effervescent productions.

This year we headed backstage at Sugar Mountain Festival to capture some of the performers from the day. Ian Laidlaw set up his studio and got straight to shooting throughout the day. Enjoy them exclusively on the AU, starting with the one and only Dan Deacon, above:

Ten performances not to miss at Sydney Festival 2015

From the 8th of January, the city of Sydney will once again be transformed by the annual month long extravaganza known simply as Sydney Festival. The event will take over spaces around the city - some, such as the Famous Spiegeltent, are only here for the festival. But with hundreds upon hundreds of performances, it's hard to know where to begin when it comes to choosing what to attend. We thought we'd lend our advice and are excited to bring you ten performances we reckon you shouldn't miss...

Hello Asia! Photo Gallery: Clockenflap Day 3 - West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong (30.11.14)

It's the third and final day of Johnny Au's photos from the Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival in Hong Kong - and boy did it go off with a bang. On their way to Australia, The Lemonheads rocked it, Hong Kong's Noughts and Exes impressed, The Stray Katz Big Band covered the classics and Dan Deacon created beautiful, beautiful mayhem. But it was up to Tenacious D and The Flaming Lips to close out the festival...

Live Review: Southbound Festival - Day Two (08.01.12)

Whilst the first day of the festival had its undeniable highlights and a number of memorable music moments, it became clear fairly early in the day that the second day wasn’t going to disappoint either. Whether it be discovering new bands, insane dance circles, or enjoying an ice cold cider whilst listening to some great folk music, there was something for everyone on the final day of the festival.

We sit down with Baltimore native and dance party expert Dan Deacon to discuss his upcoming Australian tour, as well as his new album and what it's like working with the director of The Godfather.

Hey Dan, how are you?

Good, how are you?

Yeah, good thanks, where are you calling from today?

I’m in Texas

You’re on a solo tour at the moment aren’t you?
