Live Review: AFI + ††† (Crosses) - Factory Theatre, Sydney (25.02.14)

††† (Crosses) trades in the Deftones atmospheric and mature approach to metal that transcended the nu-metal scene they were lumped in with for 80’s synthesizers and more atmospheric electronics. There are some interesting moments like a bit of house production, or hip hop beats settling into the mix. Its delivered with precision and gusto by a group of seasoned studio musicians but lacks much that stands out or really leaves much of a lingering impression. In many ways the project is a step backwards for Chino Moreno towards the FM rock his contemporary Marilyn Manson has churned out for the past decade.
