Craig David closes out Thursday night at The Great Escape’s Vevo Lounge

The Great Escape had hundreds of artists performing throughout many venues in Brighton on Thursday during the afternoon and in the evening, with delegates keen to kick on during the night being spoiled for choice. Vevo’s set up at Wagner Hall hosted acoustic sets through the day – ‘discovery artists’ – while at night, the indoor venue was turned into a jam-packed club.

British R&B/pop artist Craig David headlined the Vevo main room, drawing in a crowd that waited hours in huge queues to gain access. With a large screen set up in the outdoor area that live streamed the set for those who couldn’t get into the main room, it was evident that the organisers were expecting quite the party.

David, who as ‘Craig David’s TS5‘, has been making an impressive comeback over the last 12 months, took to the stage just past 11:30pm and wasted no time in throwing down an hour-long set that would take the crowd through his Born To Do It hits, current club favourites and his new single “One More Time” (officially released at midnight). Displaying an impressive live vocal, the singer had the nostalgia thick in the air as he sung over “Rewind”, “Fill Me In” and “Walking Away”, while also displaying some great freestyles over a reworked version of Chris Brown‘s “Loyal”.

Whatever doubts people may have had about David’s presence on the music scene now were clearly left at the door – an entertaining and engaging performer still, 16 years on from Born To Do It‘s release.
