Hot Chip, Dirty Three, Courtney Barnett & more announced for Sugar Mountain 2016!

Before the weekend, Le1f was the first name leaked/revealed for Melbourne's Sugar Mountain festival, quickly indicating that the organisers had another vibrant and eclectic line up in store. This morning, they've gone and announced the full line up of artists, musicians and individuals set to take part in the event next January at the VCA and Melbourne Arts Precinct!

The largest publicly voted music awards in the country, The Age Music Victoria Awards, have announced the nominees for 2015, highlighting the best of contemporary, Victoria-based Australian music in the past 12 months and celebrating the enormous success of our very fine, very strong industry. As always, the awards will also shed light on the best venue and festival in Victoria over the past year.

Courtney Barnett leads ARIA Award nominations for 2015; Artisan and Fine Arts Award winners announced!

The nominations for the 2015 ARIA Awards have taken place in Sydney today, with the winners of the Artisan and Fine Arts categories also being announced. Courtney Barnett won her first ARIA Award during the event, taking away a statue for Best Cover Art, while Kevin Parker won both Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year for Tame Impala's latest album, Currents. For Barnett, today's event revealed her as the artist with the most ARIA nominations for 2015, racking up a massive eight nominations.

Courtney Barnett teams up with Jack White to pay tribute to an Aussie rock legend

Aussie gem Courtney Barnett has hooked up with Jack White at his very own Third Man Studio in Nashville to record two new songs, one of which is a cover of Rowland S. Howard's timeless "Shivers". The other, a sequel of sorts to Barnett's "Boxing Day Blues", will be released on a limited edition vinyl later this month; for now, Barnett and White's spine-tingling version of "Shivers" is our first taste of what this duo are capable of: beautiful, emotive, good ol' fashioned rock n roll.

Nominees for the 2015 AIR Award for Best Independent Label announced!

We're two weeks out from the 2015 Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards and with the performers and first round nominees already announced, the good folk at AIR have today announced the latest nominees to the pool of great talent already up for awards. The nominees for Best Independent Music Label have been rolled out this morning, including Elefant Traks, Milk! Records, Liberation Music, Future Classic and Ivy League Records. The category, introduced in 2012, saw I OH YOU win at last year's ceremony, held at North Melbourne's Meat Market venue in October.

Now that Splendour in the Grass is over for another year, Australian festival goers can now look ahead to the next major run of festivals coming up over the New Year period and for 2015, the crew behind the Falls and Southbound festivals have delivered a pretty slick line up of artists set to bring in your New Year right. Leading the first artist announcement of the festival tour are Foals and Bloc Party, both British bands who have long enjoyed a successful relationship with fans in Australia.

The rise of Courtney Barnett to internationally recognised and acclaimed songwriter and performer over the past few years has truly fascinating to watch. While we've known of her talents on the local front for some time now, being able to watch her completely entrance and hook international audiences in in recent times had us (and no doubt any other Australian in the crowd) feel pangs of pride. Over the last few days, publications have been rolling out their 2015 Best Of (so far) lists - stay tuned for the AU's - and according to Rolling Stone in the US, Barnett's "Pedestrian At Best" tune taken from her debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, has taken the #1 position as the best song of 2015.

Hometown shows always offer something a little special for an artist and their fans alike and for Courtney Barnett, returning to Melbourne recently to headline The Forum, we can only imagine what that experience was like. A current gem of the international music industry, Courtney's recent Australian shows went lengths in demonstrating why she is such a hot name on the scene at the moment. Our friends at Moshcam were on ground at Courtney's Melbourne show to capture the action and today we premiere one of their cuts from the show - a killer rendition of Courtney's tune "Kim's Caravan".

It's been fun watching Courtney Barnett slay it overseas with her highly acclaimed Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. Music Video of the Day: Courtney Barnett “Dead Fox” (2015)

Courtney Barnett’s debut Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, debuted at number #10 on the US Billboard charts and #4 on the ARIA charts here in Australia, and “Dead Fox” is the new single off it. Animated and directed by Rory Kerr and Paul Ruttledge is it’s new video, a beautiful but slightly disturbing children’s story. Watch it here:

This Saturday, April 18th, marks the world-wide celebration of World Record Store Day. The event, started six years ago as a means to celebrate the sale of vinyl music, last year boosted record sales to the highest they've been since the day's creation. This year, record stores the nation over are hosting celebratorial events, including live music, signings, appearances, giveaways and exclusive RSD releases.
