Live Review: Dune Rats + Cosmic Psychos + Horror My Friend - The Gov, Adelaide (25.06.15)

Having Dune Rats and Cosmic Psychos in Adelaide on a Thursday night can really screw you up - the concept of returning to a full day of work on Friday and then a full weekend while feeling hungover as a dog after one of their shows is horrendous. Deciding to roll sober on this particular night (four previous Dunies experiences having taught me some lessons in the art of navigating hangovers in the past), I turned up at The Gov and became part of a crowd that had no qualms about rising to the occasion - things got messy, sweaty and anarchic quickly.

Ross Knight of the Cosmic Psychos got up during Dune Rats' set and described them as the bastard sons of the bastard fathers. Which about sums it up. The night started fairly reasonably with Adelaide's Horror My Friend but once the Cosmic Psychos played and the Dune Rats hit the stage it descended into anarchy. There was stage invasions, shoeys and the inevitable post shoey spew, madness and mayhem.

Cosmic Psychos have been in the midst of some heavy hectic times since the film about their band was released to much praise. The band will be hitting up four venues through April. From San Remo to Castlemaine, there's going to be one unique party blasting through - have the beers ready.

The Big Day Out rolled in to Adelaide on its traditional last Friday in January on another scorching 40 degree day. With the decision to move away from the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds, many people were longing for the shade of the grandstand, but the new location proved easy to move around and a good size for the crowd on the day. The bands put on some fantastics sets, despite the heat and the crowd did a great job taking care of themselves and those around them, making it another fantastic Big Day Out in Adelaide. Hopefully there will be many more!

Live Review: Port Royal Street Party - Fennell Street, Port Melbourne (18.01.14)

It’s pretty rare for the typically quiet streets of Port Melbourne to stage live music – and particularly uncommon for a day party showcasing the best that Victoria has to offer in the way of punk and rock acts. Perhaps that’s why the inaugural Port Royal Street Party in Fennell Street, Port Melbourne was so damn special. And what a cracker of a day it was.
