the AU interview: Claude Hay (Blue Mountains)

The one man band known as Claude Hay has been a busy, busy boy. His Australian tours have gotten so big he’s spending $10,000 a year on fuel and with album number three, I Love Hate You getting the love from everyone, that bill may just go up. There’s been a heap of overseas shows, some major love from NPR, even though the whole trip went wrong and trying to figure out where the money from Peats Ridge went, because none of the artists got paid.

So somewhere between Peats Ridge meetings, building guitars and studios and making kick ass music, Claude Hay somehow found the time to talk to Charly Lindsay from the AU review about his new album, having to tape instruments together just before a giant show and the van he loves to hate.

Album Review: Claude Hay - I Love Hate You (2012 LP)

To put it simply, I love this album. I Love Hate You is full of rock classics that belong on all the best rock songs lists. It has songs so quick you want to dance, a hillbilly number that will get anyone and everyone slapping their thighs, and slow moving numbers that could almost bring a tear to your eye if they didn’t end with such unbelievable musical outros that you’re smiling and dancing again by the end of them.

Festival Review: Peats Ridge Festival, Day 3 - Glenworth Valley (31.12.12)

The last day of the festival starts hotter than any other and both the heat and the excitement of the night to come rip campers out of their tents from 7am onwards, regardless of what time they got in there.

Live Review: Sydney Blues and Roots Festival

Blues axeman Glenn Cardier.

Far out of the city on the banks of the Hawkesbury River you can find one of Sydney’s best kept musical secrets, which shouldn’t really be a secret at all given it’s a music festival.

Live Review: Claude Hay + Junior Bowles + Morgan Bain - The Fly Trap (29.09.12)

Saturday night saw The Fly Trap in Fremantle play host to Katoomba’s Claude Hay, in town to launch his new album I Love Hate You. The gig marked my first foray into live music for a couple of months and Hay and friends eased me back into the scene in an impressive fashion, with an intimate night of blues and roots.

Live Review: Peats Ridge Festival - Glenworth Valley (29, 30 & 31.12.11)

Now in its 8th year, the Peats Ridge Festival seems to be getting bigger and bigger. World renowned as one of the leading sustainability events, "Peats" is one of the must do NYE events on most of Australian bucket lists. A gathering for all things eclectic, the event creates a environment like no other.
