Splendour Sideshow Review: The Wombats + Circa Waves - Adelaide Entertainment Centre (30.07.15)

Walking through the Entertainment Centre ‘Orb’ (as the staff there call it) on Thursday night there was a buzz fuelled by genuine excitement from all demographics of Adelaide. Only a small selection of bands can generate the level of excitement that The Wombats managed last week, the fact that they were upgraded from Thebby Theatre to the Entertainment Centre is a compliment in itself.

The Wombats

The Wombats wrapped up their time in Australia with their gig at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre on Thursday night. A sold out crowd packed the theatre for a high energy show including support from Circa Waves. Kerrie Geier was there for the AU review.

Splendour Sideshow Review: The Wombats - Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne (28.07.15)

If you were to get myself, at 15 years old, to guess which band they were listening to would in half a decade’s time become an arena act, England’s The Wombats wouldn’t even cross my mind. Nethertheless, it’s now five years passed and I’m standing at the back of the pit of Margaret Court Arena, watching Circa Waves playing some truly jangly Britpop that sounds nothing like Circa Survive and wondering what five thousand people dancing to the idea of dancing to Joy Division looks like. Scanning the seats I can see more than a few faces are experiencing their first case of, "Oh fuck, I really should have brought earbuds".

Rebecca Houlden was at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne this weekend to check out The Wombats take on the frenzied crowd with their brilliantly entertaining tunes. Supported by Circa Waves, this was a show and welcome back to Melbourne that was unmissable for many. Check out her shots!

Liverpudlian legends The Wombats have been kicking a solid amount of ass on Australian stages since arriving back in the country last week for Splendour and a run of shows in the capitals with Circa Waves. Stoked to have them back! Check out these photos from their Sydney show at the Hordern, shot by Gwen Lee.

Splendour in the Grass pre-parties set up for Byron Bay & Brisbane on July 23rd!

The good crew behind Splendour in the Grass want to ensure that you, the festival-goer (or one of the many who missed out on tickets) ease into the Splendour experience this year properly. With three days of live music, Byron Bay romps and deteriorating levels of body hygiene to fill out the 2015 event, what better way to kick things off than a blinder of a party the night before? Whether you're hanging back in Brisbane or rolling into Byron Bay on the 23rd, there are two special pre-parties set up to make sure you head to the North Byron Parklands in the perfect spirits on the 24th.

Splendour in the Grass Sideshows: The Wombats extend Australian visit with Perth, Sydney, Melbourne & Adelaide shows!

It's going to be a Liverpudlian love in this July, when The Wombats and Circa Waves join forces for a run of Splendour sideshows to take them through Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide! The Wombats were only out in the country recently for a few promo shows in support of new album Glitterbug but as always, have made sure that fans around the country (sorry Brisbane) are still going to be taken care of as best they can on this next trip out to Australia. Circa Waves, who played Splendour last year before returning to tour with The 1975 at the beginning of 2015 have also fast conjured for themselves a fan base of dedicated music lovers who no doubt will be showing up in force upon their return.

Single Stream: Circa Waves "101" (2015)

Last Monday, not only did Circa Waves give us their debut album Young Chasers, but they also gave us a non-album track, “101”, which is the B-side to BBC Radio 1 A-listed single, “T-Shirt Weather”. After a run of successful SXSW shows, Circa Waves are soon to kick off their biggest UK tour to date, which includes a sold out show at London’s famous Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Give the new, non-album track a stream below.

Album Review: Circa Waves - Young Chasers (2015 LP)

Young Chasers is the energetic first album from British surfy-pop-rockers Circa Waves. The band formed in the sunny seaside town (jokes it’s England) of Liverpool in 2013 and has had a swift rise to fame since then. The lads have already made it to our shores playing Splendour in the Grass last July and supporting The 1975 on their last Australian tour in January.

the AU interview: Circa Waves (Liverpool) on stalking The 1975, playing SXSW in 2015 and Arctic Monkeys.

In part two of our exclusive interview with English ‘garage pop’ band Circa Waves (filmed last week in Sydney), we delve further into the band’s extensive tour with The 1975 and the band reveals their possible ‘stalking’ tendencies. We anticipated their then upcoming Sydney show, including playing at a venue that has hosted the likes of Nirvana — no pressure there.

the AU interview: Circa Waves (Liverpool) talk about their record "Young Chasers" and playing shows with The Libertines.

Last week the AU review caught up with Liverpool indie rocker Circa Waves, who were in Sydney for the first time since they played Splendour last July. We discuss their new album, Young Chasers, which comes out March 27 in Australia. We talk about the tracks that caused Circa Waves the most grief in the album’s choosing process, which proves to be a touchy subject, and the band even promises listeners ‘a few surprises’ from the new release.

British sensations The 1975 bring their pop tunes to a sold out Hordern Pavilion and brought fellow countrymen Circa Waves along for the ride. Evelyn Tjia was there and brings you these photos:

Live Review: The 1975 + Circa Waves - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (16.01.15)

It had been a long time since I’d attended a show at the Hordern Pavilion, and I didn’t expect the big return to be for such an oddly mixed bill - by arena standards at least. A massive turnout at the Enmore in 2014, and one sold out show at the Hordern “forced” Manchester rockers The 1975 to extend the invitation to another Hordern-load of fans, with their friends Circa Waves tagging along for the ride.

Meg Mac, Remi, Kirin J Callinan and more added to the SXSW Music line up!

SXSW have released another round of musicians from around the world who will be joining the massive music program as part of their 2015 program overnight, featuring a strong line up of Australian artists who are sure to make their impact in Austin next March! Included on SXSW Music's third round are the likes of Meg Mac, Remi, Kirin J Callinan and Tkay Maidza, while on an international level, punters can be expecting the likes of Circa Waves, Best Coast, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Marina and the Diamonds to showcase!

Live Review: The 1975 + Circa Waves - Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide (10.01.15)

I'm still struggling to figure out how The 1975 have managed to cultivate this cult-like following in Australia over the past year - the British band haven't enjoyed much radio play here, and yet they've managed to move so may tickets on this, their first headline Australian tour, that extra shows had been announced in Melbourne and Sydney plus an additional Adelaide show that hadn't been featured on the original bill.
