Exclusive: Ian Laidlaw captures Sugar Mountain artists backstage in this special portrait gallery

This year we headed backstage at Sugar Mountain Festival to capture some of the performers from the day. Ian Laidlaw set up his studio and got straight to shooting throughout the day. Enjoy them exclusively on the AU, starting with the one and only Dan Deacon, above:

Photo Gallery: Sugar Mountain Festival - Victorian College Of The Arts, Melbourne (24.01.15)

The boutique festival Sugar Mountain returned to Melbourne yesterday following a year off in 2014, moving to its new home of the Victorian College of the Arts for a day of music, arts and great times. Rebecca Houlden brings us photos from the epic day:

the AU interview: Chelsea May Wheatley of Chela (Melbourne) talks Sugar Mountain Festival!

Electro pangs and slithers of disco, Chela is a force to be reckoned with. The Fremantle born songstress is keeping busy. Collaborations and tours are just a fraction of her creative outlet. Fresh back from the US, we caught up with Chela to talk Australian talent, the punk to pop progression and her fan girl expectations for 2015’s Sugar Mountain.

Chela announces Australian tour for this April and May

Electro-pop singer Chela has announced a string of dates for this April and May. The tour will see the singer take the stage in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Bondi, Fremantle, Perth and Sydney.

New Music Video: Chela "Zero" (2014)

Melbourne songstress Chela incorporates an 80s aesthetic into her new music video for "Zero." Featuring lo-fi lighting and catchy electric piano and guitar hooks, "Zero" can be viewed below:

the AU interview: Pete Keen, Artist and Creative Director of SUGARYAMA (Melbourne)

SUGARYAMA is going to be launching with a bang, with a party down at Boney in Melbourne on Friday night! The international arts and music partnership program, also the 'little sister' of the Sugar Mountain Festival, is using the event as a fundraiser to get a selection of handpicked Melbourne musicians over the Festival NRML in Mexico early next year. Pete Keen, Artist and Creative Director of SUGARYAMA, tells us more about the program's inception and more.

New Music VIdeo: Chela "Romanticise" (2013)

Chela, aka Chelsea Wheatley, has released her first single 'Romanticise'. The colourful video clip features some very primary-school-esque jazz moves from the electro-pop artist (it's great, promise).

New Music Video: Clubfeet - "Heartbreak" (2012)

What better way to get you keen for summer antics than the synth pop sounds of Melbourne band Clubfeet, who have just released the music video for “Heartbreak”.
