Shortly after their lead singer, Haydn, was knocked out in the crowd at the 2012 Sydney Big Day Out, Larry Heath caught up with the two other members of Calling All Cars - Adam and James - to talk about the incident, their latest record Dancing with a Dead Man, performing with the Foo Fighters and more.

If it wasn't for the surprising amount of attention Big Day Out has received for not selling out as in previous years, you wouldn't have known that the Sydney Big Day Out wasn't a sell out. Lines were still long (but reasonable), stages were still packed, more people arrived before noon than we had seen in the past and the enthusiasm as high as ever. And by the time tens of thousands of people were chanting along to Kanye West, as he was suspended above the crowd, following Soundgarden bringing everyone to their feet for "Blackhole Sun", you realised there was very little different about this Big Day Out than in previous years.

While the second announcement for the 2012 leg of iconic festival the Big Day Out was announced today, some odd decisions in tweaking the lineup in certain cities also came through the wire.

The sun was shining, the midriffs were exposed and the boys were shirtless, with perfect festival weather arriving just in time for Newcastle’s Fat As Butter festival. With an impressive line up of some of Australian’s favourite bands as well as some well known international acts (that may or may not have shown up...more on that later) the sunny weather matched the sunny disposition of the crowd for a day of what proved to be great live music.

The 2011 Jagermeister Independent Music Awards was hosted in Melbourne this week at the Revolt warehouse in Kensington. The building was originally built in the 1800s and has kept its industrial interior design. Strung from the ceiling were hundreds of exposed light bulbs which made for a homely, fairylit backyard party on Wednesday night. Dylan Lewis - who hosted the awards - described the building as something you would usually find hidden in Berlin.

Calling All Cars make a pit stop in Melbourne, playing at the Corner Hotel with Redcoats and Boy In A Box. Michael Christian was there to capture the action.

Are you ready to rock this New Year’s season? Because the PYRAMID ROCK FESTIVAL sure as hell are!

After being impressed with the debut single “Reptiles”, I was looking forward to this album. Melbourne’s Calling All Cars have gathered themselves a positive live reputation with no nonsense, catchy rock songs. This album “Dancing With A Dead Man” is the band's second and is much better than their debut record a few years back “Hold, Hold, Fire”.

Redcoats appeared on the Australian music scene with an arrival that was difficult to ignore. The Melbourne band has been on a steady ascent, prowling the country with their brutally fierce live set, recently supporting the legendary Stone Temple Pilots and Papa vs Pretty. Before they embark on a national tour with Calling All Cars, Redcoats are set to unleash their debut self titled EP on Friday 29th July.

Over the past four years, the Fat As Butter Festival has grown into one of the … well… FATTEST musical and cultural events in Newcastle, and indeed the country. But this year, we’re set to exceed all expectations with a line up of local and international acts that is sure to send your musical taste buds into a fat frenzy!
