the AU interview: Briggs (Shepparton) on the determination behind "Sheplife", Australian hip-hop and its critics & more!

The first time I had anything to do with Briggs was seeing him perform along the Hilltop Hoods in Adelaide back in 2012. With a strong grip on the arena-sized crowd, the Shepparton native dominated his stage, leading me to note he was one of the most promising artists Australian hip-hop has going for it. Fast forward a few years and Briggs has gone from strength to strength. He's become a fierce figure within the industry, and his fans are equally as loyal. Briggs' latest album, Sheplife, is indicative of his journey so far - it's shown that Briggs isn't an artist to rest on any laurels, rather, he's using his platform to speak louder than before.

The record which has seen recent chart success, earning Briggs his first ARIA Top 20 Accredited album, has also struck a chord with the industry as well as fans. Brigg's followers have been marching to the beat of his drum for years now, but it's with Sheplife that the rapper has truly cemented his place in the Australian hip-hop industry as a force to be aware of.

New Music Video: Briggs "Bad Apples" (2014)

While the love for his album Sheplife continues to pour in, Briggs is busy showing Australia his value to hip-hop. His powerful, forceful flow is a perfect vessel for his deft lyricism, capturing his frustration about the darker side of society in an incredibly vivid way. Not only a certified head-nodder, "Bad Apples" is an insightful, expressive tale about growing up in a less than ideal society.
