It was the night of young, attractive cover artists, with a talented line up from Australia’s Lakyn Heperi to British teenage superstar Birdy.

Young songstress Birdy lit up the Palais Theatre in Melbourne and Perri Cassie was there to capture all the action.

Pennywise to tour in April!
Hello and welcome back to our weekly wrap of music industry shenanigans that have happened around Australia (and the world). It’s been a few sleepy weeks with Santa bringing all kinds of things for everyone. Everyone seems to now be busily making tunes or wheeling’ deals again, so let’s get into the thick of things.
This week: ARIA action for 2012 and in the last week, more Australian acts announced for SXSW, and a new crowd-funding site specifically for musicians to fund albums, projects and videos.

Sparing you all the bird-related puns I could probably make in one fell swoop (oops), in short, UK teen sensation Birdy will be coming to Australia for her debut tour of the country next year! The singer songwriter who first came to the attention of many with her cover of the Bon Iver original, "Skinny Love", has continued to enthrall many music fans with her reinterprations of already brilliantly written songs.
In the column this week: the Jagermeister Independent Music Awards are announced, Richard Branson and Paul Dainty team up, and is Songi happening soon?

At the tender age of 15, Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, aka Birdy, has released her debut self-titled album. The album includes ten covers of songs by artists including James Taylor, Phoenix and Fleet Foxes, and one original song.
In this week's column: Universal and the Parker & Mr. French group team up, Ed Sheeran tops the album chart after nearly a year meandering in it, an opportunity to write music for next year's Sydney Festival, and news from three industry awards nights that occurred last week!
