Here, we reflect on our 11 favourite performances from the three days of live music.

Splendour in the Grass Festival Review: Saturday - North Byron Parklands (25.07.15)

Day two of Splendour in the Grass was full of big moments spread throughout the entire day, the biggest unsurprisingly being headliner Florence & The Machine. Rain didn't play a factor at all, though the mud situation only slightly improved from piles and piles of wood chips scattered around the grounds to make for helpful paths, particularly in the area in front of the main entrance which was second in thickness only to the entire space between the Mix-Up Stage and Red Bull Music Academy.

Baro releasing a brand new EP and set to hit the road on national tour with Gill Bates and Marcus

At just 17, Baro has the world paying attention to his unique hip hop sound, with comparisons to the likes of Earl Sweatshirt, Joey Bada$$ and King Krule. Following the success of his debut mixtape HOWGOODISGOOD?, which dropped about 12 months back, he's set to release his debut EP. Dubbed 17/18, the release (and its title) marks him turning 18, and will come out on July 10th via teamtrick.

Live Review: Freddie Gibbs + Baro - The Basement, Sydney (24.02.15)

The discerning folk from Astral People have brought one of contemporary hip hop's finest, Freddie Gibbs, back down to Australia for a very in-demand tour, playing in smaller, intimate venues to complement his very underground hip hop sound. Gibbs has come a longer way than his time in the spotlight would suggest, with him only really hitting a worldwide audience following his acclaimed 2010 mixtape Str8 Killa No Filla. What fans see before them now is a rapper with a world of confidence behind him, using that air of authenticity and his rough and tough street-minded raps to adapt to any beat that's thrown at him. That's why his 2014 collaboration album with Madlib, Piñata, worked so very well; that's why this first Sydney show was completely sold out.

the AU review's 15 Australian artists to watch in 2015

It's that time again where we look ahead to the year, rather than backwards, and move through the Australian artists we think will make it big in 2015. Now, our definition of "big" doesn't mean a Gotye size explosion - we just think that by the end of this year, all these artists will be well known around the country... some even internationally. Of course, many are well on their way there already. If you look back at our lists from 2013 and 2012, you'll see that usually we're fairly on the ball here. So pay attention! And now, in no particular order:

Secret Garden Festival announces full line up for 2015!

The Secret Garden Festival recently dropped the news that it had completely sold out all tickets for the 2015 festival, which was only testament to the event's continued popularity and faith from the loyal public who've backed it for so long. Today, the Sydney organisers dropped the full line up of artists set to perform and man, is it impressive. Over 60 bands and DJs will play over four stages at Secret Garden, promising to be the biggest outing of the festival yet. Both international and Australian talent will be represented well at the event, so if you've managed to nab yourself a ticket, you're definitely in a lucky crop!

Live Review: Illy + Tkay Maidza + Baro - HQ, Adelaide (12.12.14)

Illy's had a big year. With the release of Cinematic at the end of 2013, the rapper had a huge new block of material which has been toured heavily through this year; national festival appearances, international touring with the Hilltop Hoods, plus two headline tours of metro and regional venues...all of it leading to this, his final run of shows for the year. The 'One For The Cities Tour' marked not only another run around the country off the back of latest single "One for the City", but the final block of Australian gigs for Illy and the Cinematic cycle. And, as expected, the final show of the tour - falling in Adelaide - went out not with a whimper, but a bang.
