B&O Play launch the Beoplay M3 in Australia; include future support for AirPlay 2

Known for premium audio products, B&O Play – a sub-brand of luxury tech company Bang & Olufsen – have been scoring all kinds of goals with their bluetooth speaker range. That looks to continue with the recent introduction of their most compact speaker to date, the Beoplay M3, a device carefully designed by award-winning Cecilie Menz and finely tuned by Bang & Olufsen’s world-class acoustic engineers.

Promising a flexible and immersive listening experience for the modern music lover the speaker, which was released in Australia just a few days ago, looks to be one of the most attractive on the market with exchangeable front covers to match a range of interiors. The architecture has been based on a simple silhouette, with infinite lines running around the oval shaped body with a front cover in either premium, acoustically transparent wool blend fabric – which has been created by Danish textile company Kvadrat – or a pearl blasted anodized aluminium cover featuring the signature B&O Play pattern.

“Our home wireless speakers are designed around the idea that sound should have a prominent place at home,” said B&O Play Manager John Mollanger. “It is about putting people before technology and designing speakers that earn attention for all the right reasons: immersive sound, a simpler user experience and a design that adds warmth to the interior.”

As always, the front-firing device is able to be added to an existing ecosystem of B&O Play or Bang & Olufsen speakers through Wi-Fi, though alone it is impressively powerful with plenty of amplifier power and a combination of custom designed drivers. The careful construction has the device’s main body making use of rigid polymer, providing ample protection for the acoustic chamber while a soft shore polymer base allows enhanced stability and the ability to decouple from the surface, which in turn allows the 3 1/2 custom designed long stroke mid/woofer to perform at its most powerful.

As with other devices from the company, the M3 features advanced digital signal processing and adaptive bass linearisation, as well as unique control to protect against thermal and mechanical overload. A three-position switch has been included so users can fine tune the speaker to the actual position in whatever room its in.

Perhaps most importantly, the speaker includes a Chromecast built into the device, supporting Beolink Multiroom, Apple AirPlay and QPlay 2.0 from launch, as well as Apple’s anticipated AirPlay 2 which is launching in 2018.

The Beoplay M3 is now available from Australian stockists for an RRP of $449 with a wall-mount for $74, while both exchangeable covers are available for $89 each.
