ARCHERS

Live Review: DMA’s + The Creases + Archers - Rocket Bar, Adelaide (09.10.14)

In the past few months, DMA's have achieved more than most young bands dream of achieving over the course of a few years. From being signed to I OH YOU to playing Splendour In The Grass, the journey of this Sydney trio thus far has to be what Hilary Duff was referring to when she said, "Hey now, hey now, this is what dreams are made of". Making their first appearance in Adelaide last Thursday night at Rocket Bar, these Britpop bandits were eager to prove that their sudden popularity is more than just a matter of dumb luck.

New Adelaide collective 'Young Muscle' launches brand and roster of local talent!

There's a new Adelaide music collective on the scene. Launching today, Young Muscle represents the desire to provide a platform for local artists to reach a broader and wider audience. Run by Adam Cope, Oli Kirk and Ash Wilson, the artist agency has made a cool nook for some pretty talented Adelaide bands and artists to - hopefully - gain some more exposure nationally and perhaps even beyond.

Single Stream: West Thebarton Brothel Party "Chemotherapy" (2014)

Yes, the name may sound questionable, but make no mistake, West Thebarton Brothel Party will know how to make your night a party. With members of Adelaide bands Archers, Tea and Horror My Friend, the band represents some seven musicians who know their way around their insturments and who know how to conjure up one hell of loud, thrashing party vibe. Check out the piece of garage-rock goodness below and let us know what you think!

the AU interview: Dan Appelby of Archers (Adelaide) chats with us about touring "Nobodies" and "Long Now"!

Archers are favourites on the Adelaide scene and are currently making some waves over the border, linking up with some awesome bands on a jaunt interstate for some shows in Melbourne and Sydney this month. With new singles "Nobodies" and "Long Now" in the bag and ready to be showcased live, the five piece have already knocked two Sydney shows out and are currently en route to Melbourne for their first of two gigs in Victoria. Dan Appelby lets me know how it's all been going.

Maids touring through February into March!

They impressed us when they kicked off the AU's 5th birthday party in Adelaide last year and so we're stoked to see that Newcastle's Maids are soon to be out on the road again, sending party vibes down the East Coast and WA! Ringing in the New Year with a kickass performance alongside the likes of DZ Deathrays and Step-Panther, the boys are set to be sharing the stages with some more killer talent as their tour takes them from Brisbane in Feb straight through to a final date in Melbourne on March 1st.

Celebrating five years of supporting Australian music, the AU review team held a series of birthday parties around Australia. This time Adelaide celebrated at Jive Bar with Chicks Who Love Guns, Sincerely, Grizzly, Archers, Horror My Friend and Maids. Our photographer John Goodridge was there to capture the fun and madness.

#theau5thbday interview: Brian Bolado of Archers (Adelaide)

Third in our series of Adelaide #au5thbday interviews, where the local boys have conducted 'get to know you' chats, we've come to Archers. The band who're known for being quite good looking, producing some fantastic music and most recently, taking out the local band competition, winning a spot at the Spin Off Festival, are changing some things up musically. Tom Gordon from Horror My Friend asks guitarist Brian Bolado for some more information on stylistic change, Archers fangirls and their penchant for performing with no shoes on.

#theau5thbday interview: Joshua Calligeros of Sincerely, Grizzly (Adelaide)

In the lead up to the Adelaide #au5thbday (September 6 at Jive, if you were wondering...), the bands set to represent for South Australian music on the night took turns in interviewing each other, as you introduce themselves to the wider AU family of readers and get the dirty on the inner happenings of their respective bands. Brian Bolado, guitarist and general good guy from Archers, poses some questions to Sincerely, Grizzly's tall, NBA-lovin' frontman, Joshua Calligeros.

A little taste of Splendour in the Grass in Adelaide with a selection of acts playing in the wonderful Thebbie Theatre. The young crowd had plenty of energy and enthusiasm for the music. Our photographer John Goodridge was there to capture the action.

Photo Gallery: DZ Deathrays + Archers + Kids with Teeth - Rocket Bar (12.04.13)

Guitar shredding, Aria award winning, world touring, drum smashing, face melting, jager shotting, thrash/punk/party/rock duo DZ DEATHRAYS are headlining.

Live Review: DZ Deathrays + Archers + Kids With Teeth - Rocket Bar, Adelaide (12.04.13)

The last time I saw DZ Deathrays in any capacity, was by way of drunken brush past in the VIP tent at the Falls Festival in Lorne last year. I’d made the stupid decision of staying for the entirety of Coolio’s set instead of seeing the duo and it was one I would regret until tonight. In Adelaide on their “Teenage Kickstarts Tour”, the lads out of Brisbane are set to headline the ‘Cats vs I Oh You’ party and it’s evident that once you’re inside Rocket Bar, chances are you’re going to be in for one heck of a ride.
