Single Stream: Action Bronson & Danny Brown "Bad News" (2014)

Action Bronson and Danny Brown are two of the biggest and most distinctive personalities in the 'new gen' of emcees, so it's only right that these two pair up on a track for the next-gen GTA V. "Bad News" is laced with a hard-hitting beat by renowned hip hop DJ-producer The Alchemist, providing the two braggadocios rappers with a palette chaotic enough to complement their slick verses. Single Stream: Action Bronson "Easy Rider" (2014)

It's not everyday you hear some NY mafiaso rap layered over an old psych-folk Turkish jam, but such is the model of Action Bronson. The Queens-based emcee continues the inevitable Wu-Tang comparisons with his unique brand of free-flowing over a very untempered sample of sample from Turkish artist Mazhar ve Fuat, which has been slightly retooled by frequent Bronson producers Party Supplies to create something pretty special. "Easy Rider" is the first single taken from Bronson's forthcoming major label debut Mr Wonderful; if this is any indication of what's in store for us, then consider the LP one of the most anticipated hip-hop releases of 2014.

Festival Review: Rapture Festival ft. Eminem - ANZ Stadium (22.02.14)

The inaugural Rapture festival marks an important turn for live hip hop in Australia; it proves that this country can – and will hopefully continue to - host a professional and coherent rap festival with both massive international and local hip hop artists. While a ridiculous amount of past hiccups has marred the reputation of live hip hop in Australia – particularly from U.S acts – the successful run of Rapture stood in contradiction to the stigma, pushing through any doubters by actually delivering what it promised to.

Album Review: Action Bronson - Saab Stories (2013 EP)

Action Bronson - Saab Stories

“Back then we smoked nickels of dirt / Nowadays it aint shit to drop a grip on dessert” Action Bronson boasts on opening track ’72 Virgins’ and it'd seem things are business as usual. Saab Stories serves as a breakthrough release for Action Bronson, his first for major Atlantic Records. A result of a huge last year which included the release of the two albums Blue Chips and Rare Chandeliers alongside appearing on A$AP Rocky hit ‘1 Train'.

Festival Review: Sugar Mountain - The Forum, Melbourne (19.01.13)

Sugar Mountain 2013

Sugar Mountain Festival - not your ordinary summer event. A summit of music and arts, a sensory splendour, a conglomeration of creative culture. The AU was there to see, hear, and report from the floor.

Live Review: Action Bronson + Charlie Bucket + Cloak and Dagger + Rob Shaker + Up and Up + KNOE - The Bakery (17.01.13)

Action Bronson

“Does a midget cough softly? Yes”. Underground Hip Hop man of the moment Action Bronson brought improvisational humour, a laconic flow, some tight throwback tracks and an effortless cool to an ordinary Thursday night in Perth city.

Live Review: Action Bronson + Peanut Butter Wolf + Jonti - Manning Bar (12.01.13)

Aside from Wu-Tang there are not many rappers coming to our shores who take hip-hop fans back to the mid-90’s when mafioso rap was at its peak with seminal artists like Kool G Rap, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah. Over the past few years Action Bronson has quickly amassed a cult following with a handful of acclaimed mixtapes, pitchfork hype, and an overwhelming amount of hipster love; but what really sets the chef-turned-rapper apart from his contemporaries is his delivery, which recalls the ‘golden age’ of East coast hip-hop. Bringing his undeniable talent to Manning Bar with the iconic Peanut Butter Wolf on support, Bronson packed-out the popular uni hangout and gave us an early contender for hip-hop gig of the year.

Album Review: Action Bronson - Rare Chandeliers (2012 LP)

Rare Chandeliers LP

New Yorker Action Bronson is a big man doing big things in the world of hip hop right now. Waving the flag for the ol’ school, Action has already given us one great mixtape this year in Blue Chips with producer Party Supplies, and backs that up with Rare Chandeliers, produced by The Alchemist. A true rap record, it’s gritty, schizophrenic, comedic and straight boom-bap - oh, minus the bap.
