Melbourne band TTT's (formerly Tic Toc Tokyo) latest single is everything the title may suggest. ‘Animal’ is a strange beast; a four-minute assault on your ability to keep still. From the opening programmed drum loop to the ringing of feedback four-minutes later, you're left confused at what could possibly have possessed your body. There is one thing this song doesn’t lack, and that thing is groove; all the instruments grooving together as one, with cavernous drums filling the space created between the varying melodies. The instruments blend well, but at the same time are such violent forces, all pulling away from each other. Vocals seem to take a back seat and are a simple, yet incoherent chant. Occasionally, the word animal breaks the stream of consciousness.
If you were to imagine this song as an animal, it would have to be a fictional one such as a Cheshire Cat -complete with top hat and monocle, smoking the finest of Cuban cigars, all the while dancing a very smooth two step to this fine groove.
If this song is any indication of what is to come from the Melbourne quartet, promising is an understatement.
