Following the hype of his last single ‘Exegesis’, Melbourne-based Tobias Cummings has released his latest track ‘Goldmine’, which is just a small musical snack from his forth-coming album due to be released mid 2010.
Surrounded by synthesizers, drums, symbols and a tonne of echo, ‘Goldmine’ is a spooky spin on a love song if I’ve ever heard one. I picture the video clip to be set in a graveyard, the haunting background vocals echoing in the distance, not an ounce of gold insight
With his unmistakable Chris Martin-esque sound, Cummings comes across as being a bit of a dark poet of the sorts. The aching lyrics both tortured yet painfully sweet. He sings of love but comes across as being hurt . ‘You’re digging away, to my heart’ - Makes me hold my chest, waiting for the agony to set in. He paints the picture beautifully.
With the haunting passion of the strings and an undeniable on-cue thud of the drum machines, ‘Goldmine’ is a great track to represent Cummings’ next offering.
Review Score: 6/10
