Tiki Taane - Soundtrack To Forever (Single 2011)

Tiki Taane also known as “King of the Dubs” in New Zealand, is undeniably one of the most respected all-round artists today - also a gifted audio engineer and producer.

Taane is also renowned as former frontman of leading Kiwi dub/reggae band Salmonella Dub. After leaving the band in 2007 to pursue a solo career, he has released his debut album Past Present Future which sold well over double platinum, with his number one single “Always On My Mind”, New Zealand’s most successful single of all time.

Post a successful debut album, Taane has released a second album dubbed Flux in 2009 and soon his upcoming latest album In The World Of Light.

The first single off the album, “Soundtrack To Forever”, is undeniably a victor. Taane collaborates with Bulletproof in writing and producing the single. The eloquence within the song is somewhat eery with its heavy dubstep and drum and bass influences. In addition, the profound and melancholic lyrics can make you slip into the underworld.

The Reservoir-Dogs inspired video clip for the single “Soundtrack To Forever” illustrates that underworld. Good effort by Taane on his acting in the video clip. However, there seems to be a missing puzzle as the reason of Taane being hit and having his hands tied up is not evident. Thematically the video seems somewhat irrelevant to the lyrics. However, due to the intensity and desperation throughout the song, the video clip suits the track for that reason; which makes it an entertaining blend of the two.

Taane is no stranger to Aussie shores, as he has previously toured with Salmonella Dub for over a decade including performances at Big Day Out, Homebake and Reggaetown and even appeared on Triple J’s segment, ‘Like A Version’. He will be returning on our shores again and tour dates will be announced shortly.

In The World Of Light is set to be released in Australia on 11 March 2011. In the meantime, check out the video clip for “Soundtrack To Forever” below.
