Tijuana Cartel - "Letting it Go" (2010 Single)

The opening beats of "Letting it Go" instantly launch me back to a cold, wet, muddy summer’s evening in 2010 when I saw Tijuana Cartel perform for the first time. Though the recorded version doesn’t quite do justice to the band’s collective interaction and flair when performing on stage, it remains a great dance track, highlighting the best of their sound.

Eclectically, they combine a Latin-American flamenco underlay with contemporary electronica, and soothing vocals to produce this track, which contains a hugely catchy riff. As the song progresses, the drum beats and electronics are enhanced by the cowbell and strong, enticing build ups. For those who have not yet had the luck to catch Tijuana Cartel before, or know anything about their background, I highly recommend you keep an ear out for upcoming gigs around Australia.

Originally from the Gold Coast, the cooperative musicality from multi-instrumentalists Paul George and Carey O’Sullivan, MC Regan Hoskins and Daniel Gonzalez on the Latin-percussion results in a sound that could be a mash up of several cultures, with the sole objective to make happy, dance evoking music with soul and flair. "Letting it Go" is a good representation of what Tijuana Cartel are capable of, but I maintain that to really appreciate the band’s full potential, it is essential to see them live.
