Melbourne quintet The Tiger and Me take on that vaudevillian, old-school circus big band sound with their new single ‘Big Trapeze’, containing all the bells and whistles to try and grab your attention.

Saucy brass section? Tick

Smouldering violin solo? Tick

Theatrical ‘Emcee’-esque vocals? You betcha...

This bold song is entertaining, and I am sure in the live spectrum could hold so much more power behind it, but to me, with the admittance of not knowing a great amount this genre of music, it seems to slot in as another Hallmark cabaret number, sounding like a cover from ‘Chicago; The Musical’ rather than an original song.

‘I Left The Wolves Behind’ doesn’t stray far from the same formula of ‘Big Trapeze’, with this Grecian-gypsy, ‘Zorbas Dance’ appeal.

I can hear the talent in their musicianship, the songs are tight and exuberant, but just don’t take my fancy.
