New Music: The Raffaellas - Things Worth Knowing (2011 Single)

To give friends and fans a little taste of what's to come from their debut album, due later this year/early next, Melbourne quartet The Raffaellas have released the single 'Things Worth Knowing'.

'Things Worth Knowing' is a back-to-basics rock and roll song; it wallows along, front man Pat Santamaria sings in a lamenting drawl, Michael Ratten's drums travel forward in a simple 4/4 beat while the guitars kick up dust through little swirls of undulating sound. Santamaria's rough voice puts passion in his words, "I want to see you all the time."

It's the b-side 'Clint' that really picks up the pace. Exhuming a gentle pop appeal, both guitars run around each other in light circulating riffs, the bass and drums working together to create a dance-happy bounce. It's a cute little song, and even though one could assume Santamaria's coarse vocals wouldn't fit the vivacious nature of the song, it does well to add a sentimentality to the tune.
