Hailing from Adelaide are The Honey Pies, and in preparation for an lp they’re hoping to release sometime within the year, they’re releasing some demos to give everyone a taste of what is to come from this quartet. The most recent serving they have to offer us is ‘Too Cool For School’, and though sounding a little rough like any demo would, it’s a great snapshot to an awesome 60’s reminiscent pop song.
The tunes starts with a bouncy bassline, holding the jumpy rhythm for the whole song, as the vocals float from calm, croon-y highs to somewhat desperate sounding yells and a catchy chorus you can sing along to, all the while the distorted, rattly guitar keeps up the surfy pop feeling to the song. ‘Too Cool For School’ is a great example for this band because not only does it exhume a fun-loving vibe for its listener, but also sounds like it’s a killer tune for the band themselves to enjoy while they play.
You can download this, as well as some of their other demos, here!
(I highly recommend checking out their track 'Sex Wax'!)
