Geelong - Melbourne's beach side bogan cousin - has been churning out some ripper bands in the past year, the most recent of which is a five piece called The Frowning Crowds who play surfy/garage rock in an entirely predictable fashion. Their latest single "All Night Long" should be taken for what it is - a boisterous tune you can boogie to while downing copious amounts of liquor on a sunny afternoon. This song was made for inappropriate hip gyrations and dislocating limbs on the dance floor as you lose yourself in the jangly guitars and catchy hooks that are easy to love with the youthful vigour and reckless nature of the sound.
The Frowning Clouds' music is nothing new with the safe arrangements designed for maximum thrusting with minimum artistic merit. However "All Night Long" is pure, unadulterated fun that is bound to go down better live than it does on record. Arty wankers such as myself occasionally need reminding that not all music was meant to be a long lasting statement and The Frowning Clouds do that very well with their happy, good-times vibes.
