The Bon Scotts - We Can Cause Such A Fuss / Sad Sad Songs (2010 Double A-Side)

Before you ask - yes, this review can read minds - no, they sound nothing like '70s-era AC/DC. No, The Bon Scotts are a bit more complex than that - they've got layers of vocals, unconventional hooks and a slew of bizarre lyrics to take into consideration.

On these two tracks, the Scotts stroll through upbeat, indie-pop serenity that are easily memorable and strangely confident in their delivery. The melodies are either hoarsely whispered, mumbled or yelped in a style fitting to a Los Campesinos! record. It's an approach that takes a bit of getting used to, but both the charm and the inventiveness of the songs are sufficient enough to welcome repeated listening - particularly the addictive "Cause a Fuss", which is way too close to catchy/quirky perfection to not be considered for some kind of advertisement.

Probably not what Bon would be into were he alive today, although I'm sure he wouldn't say no to it.
