Having been in a desert for the last 8 days, I have been unable to access email, facebook or bandcamp.
When I got back I realised I had two things to do - party with friends and a big glass of scotch on ice and review The Bon Scotts' Oddernity. So why not kill two birds with one stone then? Here is the edited transcript of me and a few mates streaming the album and getting drunk.
Davide: I like the name.
Selena: This doesn't sound like AC/DC at all.
Me: It's not meant to. Read the bio, these guys sound like the complete opposite of AC/DC. I like the vibe of their music, its catchy.
Selena: Yeah I reckon The Bon Scotts will be on an advert on TV within a year. Probably for a bank or something else equally uninspiring. But it's just that kind of catchy, jingly music.
Davide: Interesting lyrics too. It's sort of poetic. And very catchy.
Me: I like the way they don't always rhyme every line. There's too much of that these days, and the Bon Scotts sound all the more fresh and new for keeping the lyrics edgy.
Davide: I like the eclectic mix of instruments. They're definitely no guitar, bass and drums indie rock band.
Me: I think I like "We Can Cause Such A Fuss" the best.
Davide: "Nasty Nasty Weather" is a great track. Infectious beat, flowing vocals, subtle melodies.
Me: "Lovesong for a Riot" is also pretty great, it has a good beat.
Davide: Yeah I like those banjos or whatever it is they're strumming away at.
Selena: I don't like those low backing vocals though.
Me: The simplicity or low key nature of the vocals let's the album down a bit. A bit more polish on the vocal tracks would be good.
Selena: Overall, I like the vibe of this band, but the vocals don't do it for me. 6/10
Davide: I'd like to see them live, I reckon they'd create a good atmosphere. 7/10
Me: Yeah I like their innovative approach to songwriting. Catchy lyrics indeed. 7/10
