The Almighty Defenders - The Ghost with the Most (2009 Single)

the-almighty-defenders

The Almighty Defenders are a super group of sorts, with members hailing from the King Khan and BBQ Show and the Black Lips. The story goes something like...when our dear crazy friends in the Black Lips found themselves in a little bit of trouble after showing India a little too much of what they’ve got, they fled to Berlin and shacked-up with King Khan, where he and fellow band mate Mark Sultan along with the B-Lips wrote and recorded 11 songs, now released as the debut self-titled album from The Almighty Defenders, out on Vice Records, and ‘The Ghost with the Most’ is my first taste of the newly released LP.

In true Black Lips fashion, it’s sloppy, fairly drug-infused with that 60’s trippy sound, rough harmonies that are barely in tune, but of course- catchy as all get-out. The main riff is played continuously from start to finish, getting stuck in your brain and forces you to sing it over and over again, without even knowing the words. It sort of feels like a song that belongs on a Tarantino soundtrack, a slow-moving waltz of men suited up walking down the street, or a drug-addled couple donning a uniform of black and white shuffling on a dance floor.

If this track is anything to judge the whole album by, it is bound to be another flower punk wet dream!
