Reptiles - Come Get Me! (2010 EP)

Reptiles new EP Come Get Me is gutsy, punky rock. It has the feel that they don't give a shit who they were making it for, or who listens to it. They were out to record some guitars and that's what they achieved.

At first I didn't like the opening track Axe - Welcoming, but the sludgy driving bassline turned out to be pretty damn catchy and a great platform for the full on assault of guitars all over the top of it. Overall, however, the song proves a bit haphazard. The second track, One By One, is upbeat and a bit of a satirical song. It sounds ridiculously American, and that kinda annoys me. I don't really get this track - it feels out of place on the EP.

Reptiles turn the tables at every opportunity on this record, presenting four varied styles with each track, all within the boundaries of their unique sound. They do have a very American quality to their sound, and if they ever do a cover they should do the theme song to True Blood - it has that same kind of vibe.

Track three, Black Stone Harbour, took me by surprise - this is some quality blues/rock. The melodies are smooth and there is a lot of depth to the song. This is followed by the rockier pace of the final track, Sticky Tape - Demo. There is beauty in the simplicity of this track. In short, it rocks.

Ultimately, Reptiles didn't quite find their footing with this EP, due largely to the arrangement of the songs - released on their own, tracks three and four would have made a standout record. As such, I feel I have to be fair and consider each song on its own merit.
