Gotye has already released what will undoubtedly be considered one of the greatest songs of the year, come the time for all the end-of-year lists to pile in. "Somebody That I Used To Know" has widely spread the already-massive love for Wally de Backer and has even given a massive boost to Kimbra's career, seeing as her short verse is one of the most talked about aspects of the song. On YouTube, meanwhile, the song is fast approaching three million views - a testament to its popularity, both in Australia and abroad.
In a great marketing move, one of 2011's stand-out Aussie acts, the rapper Phatchance, has added his own personal touch to "Somebody That I Used To Know" and the Gotye-approved remix looks to expose Chance to a much wider audience, which would also make his career the third that the song has propelled.
Chance's version of the emotional number was only released to YouTube a couple of days ago and is already receiving much acclaim for it's emotive verses, staying in theme with the original as the emcee compares himself to a patchwork doll and juggles between nostalgia and letting go of past loves.
Very rarely in hip-hop do remixes actually make perfect sense - this one does, Gotye and Phatchance couldn't be a better match.
