Motorhead - The World is Yours (2010 LP)

If you could get a degree in rocking out, you’d most likely want to learn from the highest Professor in rock and roll – Mr. Lemmy Kilmeister is that professor and Motörhead are the band in which other hard rock and roll bands must be fluent in before even considering taking up positions on the stage. In terms of influence and longevity, Motörhead are virtually peerless.

So with their latest record, The Wörld Is Yours, Lemmy and co. serve up another hot and heavy concoction of punk, metal, blues and most importantly, rock and roll. Motörhead is like a bastion of defiant luddism existing against the odds in a 21st century of slick, inoffensive and manufactured pop rock n’ roll. Pro-tools? Digital to Audio converter? What the hell’s a Coldplay? Who cares! If Motörhead want to rock like its 1976, they will. So they do.

If you can imagine the booze-soaked sing-along choruses emerging from Lemmy’s leathery lungs, you’re almost half way there. It feels like their blunt edged punk riffs are echoing across the streets of London causing hipsters and trendies to retreat into their cocktail bars and underground jungle clubs in fear of something that isn't completely superficial.

"Get Back in Line" is a song entrenched in the pure toe-tapping heavy rhythm and blues that Motörhead use as their calling card, while my favorite, "Bye Bye Bitch Bye Bye", is one of those songs that reaffirm one’s masculinity through superior guitar power. Looking for variation? Pick up a copy of The Origin of Species - this is rock and roll, son! Real rock and roll! You don’t like it? Well screw you, pal!

Grab a drink, grab your girl and go mental. It’s Motörhead! On this record (like every record they’ve ever made) they’re here to drink whiskey and kick your sorry arse.
