Moby - Lie Down In Darkness (2011 Single)

The latest Moby release, “Lie Down In Darkness”, from his ninth studio album Destroyed, is located somewhere in the neighbourhood of his classics such as, “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?”, or perhaps, “Play”. This is not to suggest that he is repeating himself in any way, the song is simply reminiscent of those works.

This is the perfect chill-out track and would fit effortlessly into a Café del Mar compilation without any further tailoring. The ambient down-tempo breaks of, “Lie Down In Darkness”, reminds one of a cityscape just after midnight; this is not surprising since Moby has admitted to composing this song, and the rest of Destroyed during moments of insomnia; staring out of hotel windows watching street lights change while on tour to various parts of the world.

A simple piano intertwines mellifluously with a string arrangement and the soulful vocal melodies of Joy Malcolm, effectively projecting the world around the artist as he was writing the track. Beautiful melancholy!

Review Score: 8/10

Check the track out below. Don’t be confused by the fact that the artist is listed as The Little Idiot. This must be a cryptic pseudonym.
