Midnight Juggernauts
are potentially Australia’s dark horse in the “electro” scene, seemingly receiving less attention they well and truly warrant. Their
sound is a lot darker and less mainstream in ways.
Latest single ‘Vital Signs’
carries on with this darkness. The constant bass line pulsating throughout carries the song, buoyed by various keyboard melodies. Something
that differs with this song is the somewhat relaxed drumbeat, not jumping out
at you aggressively but rather playing a subdued role beneath the bass line
that presents itself so prominently.
Vincent Vendetta’s vocal style also takes
a step down in intensity. Through the use of almost ethereal vocal tones, it
allows the soft phrases to float above the luscious soundscape of the other
instruments. The breakdown of this song is also something a little different - no
“solos” as such, just the use of unnerving fragments of human cries and pleas
over a sparkling keyboard arpeggio.
Complimenting the
unnerving scenes set mentally by the music, the video doubles the effect.
Opening scenes show a wide shot of some strange sci-fi orientated mad mans jam
room. The warping and corkscrewing of the band and the two subjects of the
video leaves you curiously wondering what is really going on. As the clip
develops and pieces of the mysterious puzzle are put together we discover a
nice little twist. Pardon the pun and enjoy an excellent concept directed by
Krozm, creating something more unnervingly exciting alongside the usual
performance videos.
