Jefrey Siler - History's March on Conscience Hill (2010 Single)

There's a very interesting sound developing in the new single from Sydney troubadour Jefrey Siler. Slickly produced, with just the right amount of sting in the tail, Siler creates a lot from a little in terms of instrumentation. A bass line that pounds meets a slinking spaghetti western guitar lick, while piano tinkers somewhere off in the musical distance - it's all so familiar, and yet the fact the Siler is able to do something creative with these elements makes it an intriguing listen. The vocals fall a little flat in parts, and there's not particularly a discernible chorus to speak of. That said, it's a reasonable effort, and one can be certain that there's plenty more where that came from. Switching up the song to a salsa swing near the end was also a clever and funny choice.

Review score: 6.5/10
