Jackie Onassis - Said and Done (2011 Single)

After winning over the cool kids of today with their first single “The New Dumb,” exciting experimental Aussie hip-hop duo Jackie Onassis have decided to wow us with another single - the beautiful “Said and Done.”

The near-perfect track has been stuck in my head for days now, much more than the catchiest of catchy pop tunes polluting the airwaves at the moment – a great sign for both my own sanity and the appeal of this single.

While “The New Dumb” was strictly about partying, this new single is more on the socially conscious side and has emcee Kai Tan painting an emotive picture over a gorgeous lo-fi production provided by the beat-maker of the two, Raph Zarkov.

Kai shoots straight for the heart as he maintains a nice balance between singing and rapping the perceptive lyrics, accompanied by a musical backdrop that could not be more effective; a feat made even more impressive by the fact that it is completely original – there’s no trace of sampling here.

It’s safe to chalk this up as another hip-hop gem produced down under this year, and with the quality of Aussie rap progressing nicely, while the hipster-hop trend in the States is close to reaching the point of unbearableness and the U.K is not really offering much, songs like “Said and Done” are sure to do the scene proud.

If the "The New Dumb" and "Said and Done" are indicative of Jackie Onassis' forthcoming debut album, then the LP's release will undoubtedly be something you won't want to miss.

Review Score: 9.5/10
