Sydney Singer-Songwriter Isaac Graham is back with Nomads, the follow up single to his debut album Empty Vessels (an album I definitely recommend you listen to if you haven’t already). Though he wields an acoustic, Graham isn’t your standard singer-songwriter. He sits more in the fashion of folk punk troubadours like Frank Turner and Tom Gabel.
“Nomads” instantly reminds me of the likes of Frank Turner. There’s a similar musicality there, a similar song-writing sensibility. But really the track demonstrates Graham’s talent as a songwriter. He draws you into the narrative of the song, and I found myself stopping and appreciating the intelligent lyricism and interesting little inflections. The instrumentation perfectly accompanies Graham’s lyrics, never overpowering the listener, simply providing upbeat accompaniment that really drives the track along.
The singles B-Side “Lori Meyers” is another great song with some fantastic lyrical moments matched with some strong instrumentation, including a nice driving piano riff. The vocal performance from Graham is fantastic throughout both tracks; his inflections and enthusiasm add a whole extra element to both tracks. "Nomads" is a double shot of great song writing, to the extent it must have been a hard choice to decide which track was given precedence.
"Nomads" is a fantastic follow-up to Graham’s debut and has certainly left me wanting to hear more new material. Hopefully it won’t be too long a wait for the follow-up album.
