First things first, this is not a Johnny Cash cover - not unless Johnny rose from the grave, ditched the acoustic guitar and switched his cowboy boots for a rainbow kaftan... hmm, an interesting thought – but (perhaps unfortunately?) not very likely.
As it stands “Walk The Line”, the new single of Melbourne duo Gray Taylor and Louise Terry’s Flying Scribble (who originally played under the LOVEPACK moniker), couldn’t be further from the folk-fused rock’n’roll track of its namesake.
Oscillating wildly with manic enthusiasm and eclectic verboseness, there’s a heck of a lot going on here – as layers of searing operatic vocals and seagull-sounding coo's, envelope a multitude of instrumentals (the most identifiable being drums, organ, bass, and glockenspiel), with remixes by Butcher Blades and Faux Pas exploding the track with a Technicolor burst of synth fireworks and fuzzy electronic beats.
This great little tune is sure to please lovers of danceable, experimental indie-pop.
Review Score: 6.5/10
