Eskimo Joe - Love is a Drug (2011 Single)

Eskimo Joe have developed a reputation for delivering powerful alternative rock tunes. With their latest release “Love is a Drug”, from the forthcoming album Ghosts of the Past, they maintain this reputation without a doubt.

Singer Kavyen Temperley’s husky vocals enter the fold after a brief drum and synth introduction that evokes the likes of Joy Division. Apart from that tenuous comparison, the song is truly original, making suggestions of similarities to other bands almost spurious. “Love is a Drug”, also maintains the emotional style of the band for which they are famous; however, as fans know they are far removed from any suggestion of being an Emo band.

As suggested by their Facebook page, the yet unreleased video clip will feature images of an unused ward of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, which seems appropriate considering the drug related theme of the song. If this track is anything to go by, Ghosts of the Past should prove to be a worthy release. The song at least is worthy of a distinction.
