Dunnedin trio Die! Die! Die! have recently released their energetic third album Form, via well known New Zealand label Flying Nun Records. Wasted Lands is an enthusiastic track from the release and is a well chosen single to showcase the band’s youthful punk vibe.
After a stutter-step drum intro. the song leaps straight into the chorus, which sees all instruments on full attack. It inspires movement from the very beginning and creates a catchy tone that continues throughout. The chorus anchors the song and so, despite splashes of freakout guitar that give way to more melodic moments, the sense of hyperactivity persists. The guitar is raw and relentless, and it gives the track a fun anarchist feel, especially when coupled with the youthful sounding vocals.
Wasted Lands makes me want to dance, and in its’ own reckless way it offers a great insight into the tone of the very likeable Form - garnering an impressive 7.5 from me!
