Reborn from the ashes of one act’s demise, Chicks Who Love Guns are releasing their debut ep Vomit on the Dance Floor. Running on four songs at 11 minutes, it’s an explosive unveiling for the band, with as much bravado and attitude as a school yard knife fight.
It opens with a number called ‘Smash Fuck’, the title alone a reminder to watch your back! A brash bassline and wirery guitar are greeted by a throaty howl. As vocalist Cass Navarro spits out a snotty “Now you have no friends to play with...” responding is a desperate sounding cry for attention between aggressive, distorted guitar. Title track ‘Vomit on the Dance Floor’ is violently fast paced with a repetitive verse and chorus, screamed to be screamed along with, cementing itself as a trouble makers anthem. Though, speaking of trouble making is track number three, ‘Murder Party’. With a temperate marching drum beat, it tells the tale of a blood-thirsty young man who takes pleasure in cutting short the lives of pretty, youthful girls; “...if I didn’t kill those poor young girls you’d never heard this song...” Navarro croons matter-of-factly. As it rings out, we’re given one last two minute explosion entitled ‘Alopecia Catfish’, with a giant, bold guitar riff and drums rolling fast to make like thunder, it leaves you gasping for breath as it finishes as fast as it begins.
Vomit on the Dance Floor is a lighting strike, disappearing with a ferocious roar of ego and twisted guitar, leaving nothing in its wake but a listener killing for more.
