"There's three things in Life, that's God, Love and Satan. And God, how I love Satan..." Cass Navarro drawls out over a silence, before being completely destroyed by fast, manic drums and an abrasive thrashing of guitar.
There is something particularly kitsch about Sydney's Chicks Who Love Guns. From their 2011 debut ep Vomit on the Dance Floor, and even their name itself, through to this new single "God, Love and Satan"; this brazen quintet unashamedly walk the crooked line between tongue-in-cheek and over-the-top with style, ego and a complete desire to 'fuck shit up'.
"God, Love and Satan" is only a little under three minutes, however Chick Who Love Guns' newest liquor-drenched effort create a brash, even theatrical combination of bold riffs and broad, rolling drum rhythms. Front man Navarro's slightly weathered voice is a dark and handsome croon. Making a nice contrast against it is bassist Mitch Farkas's screams of desperation, reiterating the manta in far more blood-curdling way.
This new tune, no more audacious and cocky than anything they've done before, sees no change in direction and no agenda other than to have a good time. However, I can sense the screws are a little tight, the wit a little quicker, creating something that no one will ever want to mess with.
